What Is The Difference Between Botox And Dermal Fillers?

Interested in all the anti-aging injectables available at South Coast Plastic Surgery – but not sure which one is right for you?

No worries! We can help you determine which injectable can deliver the best results for your particular aging symptoms. Whether you suffer from crow’s feet or you’re losing youthful volume in your cheeks and lips, you’ll find an injectable that takes years off of your appearance.

In general, most anti-aging injectables can be divided into two categories: Botox and dermal fillers. These make up the majority of the anti-aging injectable market, and for good reason: they’re highly effective at minimizing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, as well as counteracting other common aging symptoms.

LET’S DIVE DEEPER INTO THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN BOTOX AND DERMAL FILLERS:

• Active ingredient: BOTOX® (onabotulinumtoxinA), while dermal fillers usually contain hyaluronic acid. Both compounds are safe and effective at minimizing wrinkles; however, they accomplish this goal in very different ways.

• Counteracting wrinkles: BOTOX® (onabotulinumtoxinA) interrupts the nerve cell’s signals to muscles, which results in more relaxed and smoother-looking skin. Dermal fillers work by plumping up the skin from beneath the surface, which minimizes wrinkles and fine lines.

• Treatment areas: Botox works best between the eyebrows treating the frown lines and on forehead lines and crow’s feet; it can even be used to provide a subtle eyebrow lift. Dermal fillers are popular for cheek and lip augmentation, for softening the tear trough areas, in the temples, as a non-surgical “nose job”, chin and even re-volumizing the hands.

• Duration of results: BOTOX® results usually last around three to six months. Dermal fillers tend to last a little bit longer, with most injectables ranging anywhere from up to 1 to 2 years.
